Broadbent Habitats Ltd

What We Do
Broadbent Habitats Ltd supply high-quality Biodiversity Net Gain units from the Polebrook Airfield Habitat Bank – a former WWII airfield transformed into a flagship nature recovery site in North Northamptonshire. We support developers locally and nationally who are in need of offsite Biodiversity Units (BU) to reach their Net Gain requirements.
Who We Are
Broadbent Habitats Ltd is a family run company built upon practical land management experience combined with ecological expertise. We support responsible development by creating habitat banks which deliver real, measurable improvements to biodiversity.

Where Heritage Meets Nature Recovery

Polebrook Airfield is a landscape in transition — once a busy Allied airbase, now a strategic Habitat Bank where open runways are giving way to woodland belts, species-rich grassland and wetland features.

The result is a site that honours its wartime past while delivering measurable Biodiversity Net Gain and long-term ecological resilience.

Broadbent Habitats connects developers with this landscape-scale project, providing off-site units that support planning applications across a wide regional catchment.

Strategic Location & Reach

Polebrook Airfield Habitat Bank spans two National Character Areas the North Northamptonshire LPA:

  • NCA 89 – Northamptonshire Vales

  • NCA 88 – Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Claylands

This geography reduces spatial risk multipliers for suitable developments and strengthens the bank’s regional planning relevance.

Science-Led, Independently Assured

Broadbent Habitats works in partnership with Middlemarch Environmental, part of The Wildlife Trusts network, who provide independent ecological design, assessment and long-term monitoring.

This ensures:

  • Habitats are created and managed to rigorous standards

  • BNG uplift is measurable and evidence-based

  • Unit delivery is trusted by planners and investors
